Know the confirmed hazard

The official statement below establishes the need to return. It does not give a measured safe distance, movement speed or universal countdown. Those numbers should not be inferred from the wording.

Before, during and after the run

This is a conservative planning checklist. It cannot predict server conditions or replace what you see in the game.

1. Before leaving, identify the return route and note anything that slows you down.
2. During the run, stop extending the route when the return feels uncertain.
3. Use a personally chosen reminder if helpful, while watching the actual game cues.
4. After returning, compare the route with your previous attempt and change only one variable next time.

Use a timer as a reminder

Use the Open Sea Event Timer for event times you have observed or chosen yourself, not a claimed universal wave cycle. Browser tabs can be suspended or delayed, so a notification is never a safety guarantee.

If a run fails, note whether the issue was navigation, movement, distraction or a late return. That gives you a more useful next experiment than simply choosing a larger number on the timer.
